ATTR Amyloidosis is a rare disease (mainly in black males) caused by an abnormal buildup of proteins called amyloid in various organs or tissues. In ATTR amyloidosis, amyloid deposits are formed from misfolded transthyretin (TTR) protein, which is normally responsible for transporting vitamin A and thyroid hormone. These deposits can interfere with normal organ function—especially in the heart and nerves—potentially leading to organ damage and failure.
Shortness of breath, swelling in legs or feet, digestive problems, tiredness or weakness, coughing or wheezing, carpal tunnel syndrome, eye floaters, confusion or difficulty thinking, irregular heartbeat, & nerve pain.
Can be diagnosed Electrocardiogram (ECG), Cardiac imaging (PET Scans, MRIs), Bone Scan, Heart Biopsy, & Blood Tests.
While there is no cure, and no way to rid the body of amyloid deposits, there are medications and or treatments to halt progression.
