TTP September 9, 2013, I suffered from a rare blood cancer called It was described that my body was in the shape of a car wreck/gunshot victim.
Thank you Mayor Sylvester Turner (State Rep) and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (Heading to DC on a plane to DC calling the Head of Methodist to give me the best of care.
During my 22 days in ICU, Houston Methodist Willowbrook was there for me. To save my life almost several hundred units of plasma were given to me.
TTP is a rare, life-threatening thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). There are approximately 3 cases per million people. If not treated could cause Strokes or early death.
(TTP) Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpuracan can be fatal or cause lasting damage, such as brain damage or a stroke if it's not treated right away.
Fresh frozen plasma is given through an intravenous (IV) line inserted into a vein. This is done to replace the missing or changed ADAMTS13 enzyme.
Plasma exchange (also called plasmapheresis) is used to treat TTP.
This is a lifesaving procedure. It removes antibodies (proteins) from the blood that damage your ADAMTS13 enzyme. Plasma exchange also replaces the ADAMTS13 enzyme. In most cases, TTP occurs suddenly and lasts for days or weeks, but it can go on for months. Relapses can occur in up to 60 percent of people who have acquired TTP. Flareups also occur in most people who have inherited TTP.
Plasma treatments are the most common way to treat TTP. Other treatments include chemo and surgery. Treatments are done in a hospital.
Here we are almost 10 years later surviving and thriving. Once recovered I desired the opportunity to give back and pay it forward by sponsoring a Blood Drive at Texas Women Empowerment Foundation CEO Deavra Daughtry.
There are so many that have been diagnosed with cancers, illnesses, etc., that would be a blessing too. In memory of my daughter Deanna, colleague and mentee Tonya Williams other relatives and friends that have lost their battle them!
God Blessed us to host a Blood Drive which tripled the amount normally done for a drive even for corporations, companies, churches, etc.
